Treven Gokey, 49, was arrested Wednesday at his Phoenix home for allegedly making terrorist threats specifically targeting LGBTQ+ community members and the business Cruisin 7th Bar on North 7th Street in Phoenix.
According to the local CBS News affiliate, a crisis hotline asked police to check on him after he made an unsettling 14-minute phone call threatening to kill people.
Police knocked on his front door and they say Gokey refused to open it. Gokey reportedly told police that recent political events did not “make him happy” and the “radical left violence breeds a far-right response.”
Officers say he made multiple comments while handcuffed about wanting to be a “martyr for Charlie Kirk,” the far-right activist who was killed last week.
Gokey also stated that recent school shootings were committed by transgender people and that “transgenderism should be eradicated from society.”
I’ll note here The Gun Violence Archive has previously reported that out of more than 4,600 mass shootings between 2014 and 2024, at most six involved transgender suspects — just 0.128 percent.
This is not the first time that Gokey has been on police radar. A few weeks ago, he reportedly made 911 calls threatening to shoot random people and then die by suicide.
