The Supreme Court has agreed to review Donald Trump’s claim that he had absolute immunity from prosecution for actions taken while he was president. This means the trial may not be held before the 2024 presidential election in which Trump is seeking a return to office. https://twitter.com/washingtonpost/status/1762992853171507706 From the Washington Post:
The justices set argument for the week of April 22 to consider a unanimous ruling from a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which on Feb. 6 rejected Trump’s sweeping assertion of immunity from prosecution.
Trump’s pretrial proceedings in D.C. will remain on hold until a ruling is issued, putting the Supreme Court in the politically fraught position of influencing the timing of an election-obstruction trial for the leading Republican presidential candidate.

The three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit wrote in its ruling:
“We cannot accept former President Trump’s claim that a president has unbounded authority to commit crimes that would neutralize the most fundamental check on executive power — the recognition and implementation of election results.”
Trump’s great hope, of course, is that he delays the trial long enough to be re-elected. As president, he would then order the Justice Department to drop the case. https://twitter.com/DavidCayJ/status/1762994928924131495 https://twitter.com/JoyceWhiteVance/status/1762963078075818021
