2024 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees Announced

The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been announced, and most are first-time candidates. This year’s nominees are: • Mary J. Blige • Mariah Carey • Cher • Dave Matthews Band • Eric B. & Rakim • Foreigner • Peter Frampton • Jane’s Addiction • Kool & the Gang • Lenny Kravitz • Oasis • Sinéad O’Connor • Ozzy Osbourne • Sade • A Tribe Called Quest https://twitter.com/rockhall/status/1756354906754048007 This is the first ballot appearance for Cher, Carey, Sade, O’Connor, Foreigner, Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Kravitz, Oasis, and Osbourne (who was already inducted as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006). It’s certainly a diverse group of artists, which I think is a good thing. For years, people kind of got hung-up on the phrase “rock & roll” which left pop and R&B artists out. Over the years, that’s clearly changed. But I have to say, I am surprised someone like Olivia Newton-John – who had a huge decades-long career with several crossover hits – has never been nominated. Not to take anything away from artists like Sade or Sinéad O’Connor, but if they can be in the mix, why not Olivia? To be eligible for a nomination, the artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. https://twitter.com/latimes/status/1735947892311883829 It’s worth noting that in December, Cher made news during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show by announcing she would refuse to participate in an induction if she were to be elected. The Oscar-winner apparently felt ignored by the Rock Hall for years and considered it a snub. “You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars,” she told Clarkson. ” I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.” That said, Dolly Parton tried to decline her nomination two years ago, thinking she didn’t “deserve” to be in the Hall, having not been a “rock” artist. But then, she was voted in anyway and Parton graciously accepted. So stay tuned to see what happens with Cher.
